Hades II Game Review

Hades II – A Worthy Successor to a Roguelike Masterpiece

Supergiant Games, the indie powerhouse behind games like Bastion and Transistor, created a huge stir in the gaming world by launching Hades in 2020. Now, in 2025, Hades II is back and kicking, and it surely lives up to the monumental expectations. Still in early access, and it already has captivated fans all over itself. Especially for having better lore, better gameplay, and a brand new character. Here we have the Hades II game review for our readers:

Meet The New Protagonist: Melinoë

Hades focused on Zagreus, The Son of Hades, and his rebellious trail through the Underworld to win back his birthrights. However, with Hades II, it’s Melinoë.  She is the Underworld’s Princess and sibling of Zagreus. Melinoë, who is a potent immortal witch-warrior, has been trained to vanquish Chronos-the Titan of Time. It has captured Hades and caused chaos in the Underworld.

It isn’t a gender-swapped retelling of Zagreus’s journey. Melinoë’s story is a complex tale of revenge, family, and fate with roots in myth. Her magic abilities and style of fighting are a new approach for roguelike-the combination of fast-paced action. Moreover, it is spellcasting, and features tactical depth.

Evolution of gameplay: Familiar yet fresh

Hades II had its predecessor’s strong gaming foundation and deployed new mechanics that seemed to make every run exciting. Players still plunged into procedurally generated rooms to fight different mythical enemies and were bestowed with boons from the Olympians. However, Melinoë could now use witchcraft and arcana-based enhancements. Therefore, while tapping into the power of moon magic, adding yet another twist into strategy.

There seem to be more evenly paced action and balanced pace of combat, storyline, and exploration. God casts like Apollo, Hestia, and Selene make available those new boons. It wil change the way in which combat builds could look like. As in the first part, every run is exciting, challenging, and narrative, now more than ever.

Art, Music, and Storytelling: Supergiant’s Signature

Once again, Supergiant Games has produced hand-drawn art to awe and soundtrack hauntingly designed by Darren Korb. The wit and the deep emotion dear to fans are maintained in voice and writing contention. Every interaction turns significant. These characters are the most alive, the most flawed, and within their moments the most easily remembered: Moros, god of doom. or the cryptic goddess Hecate, Melinoë’s mentor.

The story of the game is narrated gradually in successive runs against the background of conversations and upgrades, ensuring that no run feels wasted. Hades II preserves the magic formula of merging narrative and gameplay into the mix.

When Will the Game Release?

Hades II launched into Early Access in May 2024 with extensive gameplay already available; it’s polished and robust and has at least dozens of hours of gameplay.
